‘Live each day as if it were your last. Learn as if you would live forever.’ —Mahatma Gandhi
Yesterday my wife got swiped by a tractor trailer. Thankfully, it wasn’t her time! She emerged without a scratch as well as the other driver.
The wise man Solomon said,
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.’ Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 KJV
What’s your perspective on life? How do you answer existential questions such as,
• Who am I?
• What is the meaning of life?
• What is my purpose?
How are we to make the best of the time we have?
Life is so precious, fragile, and unpredictable.
Yesterday wasn’t ‘Mel’s day.’ Neither was it mine or yours. By all means you’re reading or listening to this. Thank God. 🙌🏾
However, someone else just breathed their last breath a minute ago, an hour ago, or maybe just a day ago. That’s not necessarily a frightening thought. If we live long enough we will all die. The question is, ‘what do we do until that time?’ It can help to put life into perspective, to ask oneself: what’s most important in my life? Am I where I want to be? And if not, how do I get there? Can I be at peace with God, others, and myself?
The group ‘Casting Crowns’ sings a song that often captures my view. The song says,
‘Make it count, leave a mark, build a name for yourself
Dream your dreams, chase your heart, above all else
Make a name the world remembers
But all an empty world can sell is empty dreams
I got lost in the light when it was up to me
To make a name the world remembers
But Jesus is the only name to remember
And I, I don’t want to leave a legacy
I don’t care if they remember me
Only Jesus
And I, I’ve only got one life to live
I’ll let every second point to Him
Only Jesus.’
God bless you! 🙏🏽
